Last Hurrah!

We are off in about an hour.  The last vacation of the summer.  It is one of my favorites, then again, every vacation we had we got excited about.  This one is with my whole family.  My whole family.  Read it again.

For the past two years, we have been without my whole family.  Three years ago we muddled through and tried to ignore a dad who just wasn't himself.  There was something wrong.  Two weeks after that vacation we got mom out of the house and began staring down addiction in the face.  We didn't blink.  We prayed.  We learned.  We gave each other strength.  We fell into God's arms over and over again.  Two years ago dad was not there.  It had been such a huge journey and we were mostly through it, but we still had such a road to travel.  We were healthier though and dad was sober.  Last summer dad visited a few times, but my brother and sister--in-law weren't with us.  My nephew Finley was born just days before the vacation.  So they visited a day or two as well.

This is a new year.  We are together again.  We may look different and we certainly feel different, but we are  are a family.  We love our Lord.  We have battle scars and are proud of them.  We will boat, swim, roast over a fire, eat, play, and worship together.  I'm so excited!  Now if I could just get everything packed.
