Dad update

Thanks for praying. Thanks for remembering my family. Please don't stop.

Dad has said that he wants to go to Harbor Hall in Petosky, MI. During our family intervention in September, this is where we asked him to go for residential help for his addiction. He has rather firmly said "no" to this over the past eight months. Hard to believe we have been living like this for eight months.

According to dad's attorney (I hate writing that!) he has committed to checking himself in next week. Now, we have heard similar things before, but perhaps. . . . . . perhaps this could be it. Perhaps dad has finally decided to get real help, to face real issues, to live in reality. Nope, it isn't going to be fun. Nope, I wish that he didn't have to go. I wish he could conquer this on his own, but he can't. Perhaps he has finally admitted this to himself. We'll see. He could still change his mind. He has said a couple of times over the past months that "he will go" only to refuse. Still, there is a possibility.

Why does this seem more real this time? Well, dad also signed legal paperwork. He doesn't want a divorce (AMEN!) and has signed papers that say that mom can live in the house for six months. Maybe he is planning on being gone for several months? Maybe just maybe this time he'll follow through, he'll keep his word, he'll get help.

Even if he does get help, I'm not sure who I'll meet when this is all over. I'm not sure who lives in my dad's head these days. Medication does some pretty crazy things to your mind, especially when it is used incorrectly for so many years. Think Ozzie Ozborn has always been this way?

So to recap:
1. Dad signed papers allowing mom (and all of us) to be in the family home for six months.
2. Dad has said that he'll be checking himself into residential treatment when a bed becomes available next week.
3. He can't change his mind about the agreement, but he could about the treatment.

Will you join our army and pray with us, for us, and on behalf of us? Let me know if I can do the same for you.
